Florence County Sheriff's Office Deputy Joey Rodgers was shot and killed by a murder suspect after he had responded to a call that the suspect had been sighted. The suspect, who had committed a double-homicide two days prior, shot and killed Deputy Joey Rodgers when he arrived on the scene. The suspect then stole his cruiser and began to leave the scene but was stopped by Florence County Sheriff's Office Lt. R. Propps and South Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper N. Fotos. As the suspect jumped out of the cruiser, FCSO Lt. Propps and SCHP Trooper Fotos opened fire, killing him. Both officers received awards for their heroism.FCSO Deputy Joey Rodgers was 25 years old. He had served with the Florence County Sheriff's Office for 4 years.
